Drawing Development: Composition & Form Designed for Advanced Beginners to Intermediate and beyond; Ages 16–Adult • Instructor: Cassaundra Flor In this drawing course, students will build upon foundational observational skills to create more dynamic, structured, and intentional work. Emphasis will be placed on developing a deeper understanding of form, spatial relationships, and composition to bring greater clarity and depth to drawings. Through a series of guided exercises and longer studies, students will learn to organize compositions, simplify complex subjects, and use value and edge control to convincingly describe three-dimensional form. Working primarily from still life and landscape, along with occasional reference material, students will move beyond basic accuracy to focus on artistic decision-making—what to emphasize, simplify, or omit to create stronger, more compelling drawings. Topics may include compositional design, focal point development, value structure, practical approaches to perspective, and refinement of mark-making techniques. Students will also experiment with a range of materials while developing a more confident and personal approach to drawing. This course is ideal for those who have completed Drawing Foundations or have a basic understanding of observational drawing and are ready to deepen their skills. CLASS LIMIT: 12 STUDENT SUPPLY LIST: (list will be emailed upon registration) • One 18” x 24” Strathmore 400 Drawing pad • Two 2H pencils • Two 2B pencils • Kneaded Eraser • White Eraser • Pack of Willow vine charcoal • Chamois cloth or cotton rag • Travel easel (optional for landscape days, otherwise we have drawing boards if you want to sit on the ground or bring a travel chair)
