Learning to work in charcoal is essential before learning to paint, and if you are already a painter, it will help you become a better one! The expressive power of charcoal‘s rich darks and subtle range of beautiful grays has made it a favorite medium for artists from the ancient past to the present. Lessons will include working from master drawings as well as direct observation of still life, interior and working outside, weather permitting. Occasionally white chalk will be combined with charcoal. Some drawing experience is required. Charcoal drawing supplies can be purchased as a package for $25, which includes large sheets of charcoal paper in assorted colors, soft willow charcoal in assorted sizes, a white Nupastel stick, large kneaded eraser, sandpaper and large clips as well as shared use of fixitive. If you bring your own supplies, the paper must be purchased from the instructor for $12 total. Proof of vaccination for Covid-19 is required.
